What to know before your tattoo…

Before getting a tattoo, it’s essential to be well prepared to ensure the best experience and results.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment, and make sure you’re well rested — a fresh body handles the process better. Eat a good, nutritious meal beforehand to keep your energy levels steady. You’re more than welcome to bring snacks and drinks with you.

Your skin should be clean and moisturised, free from any lotions or oils on the day itself, but well cared for in advance. Ensuring your skin is healthy, free from wounds, irritation, or sunburn is essential before booking a tattoo appointment. Depending on the situation, if your skin shows any signs of damage, including cuts, abrasions, or redness from sun exposure, I will refuse service to protect both your health and the quality of the tattoo. Taking care of your skin beforehand not only ensures a safer experience but also guarantees the best possible outcome for your tattoo.

Finally, wear comfortable clothing that provides clear, easy access to the area being tattooed, making the session smoother for both you and myself. Be aware that tattooing can be a messy process so try not to wear anything too nice. Pasties and privacy screens are available on request.

I reserve the right to refuse service if you’re not dressed appropriately for your session.

Please inform me if you are taking any medications that affect your blood pressure or immune system before your appointment, as this can impact the tattooing process and healing.

Additionally, if you have any accessibility requirements, let me know in advance. While I usually work from my station downstairs, I’m more than willing to make the necessary arrangements to tattoo you in a more accessible area, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and accommodated. Your safety and comfort are my priorities.

Turning up to your tattoo session free from the influence of alcohol or drugs is crucial. Substances can impair your judgement, making it harder to communicate clearly with your artist and make informed decisions about your design. They also heighten pain sensitivity and cause increased bleeding, which can affect the quality of the tattoo and prolong the healing process. Moreover, being under the influence can compromise your ability to sit still for extended periods. For the best results and a safe experience, arriving sober is essential.
